Mentioned in the Media...
We have been receiving some very nice comments about our fiber lately and we wanted to share them with you. So we will to use this page to
blow our own horn, if you will, and pass along these comments, mentions, reviews, and patterns that are directed to our Bijou Spun
yak fibers and yarns. We are truly grateful for all of the wonderful things that are being said about our yarns and are also very thankful
to all of you who have purchased our yarns over the years!
Denver Post...
We recently spent some time at the ranch with a reporter, a photographer, and a videographer from the Denver Post. They listened to our story,
learned about our Bijou Spun yarns, and met the yaks up close and personal. While there was a print article in the Sunday edition of the paper, there
also was an online version on the Denver Post web site complete with photos, which can be found
here as well as a five minute video file which can be found
here.
At the end of the video, Napoleon, one of our steers, absolutely steals the show!
Crochet Uncut...
Darlissa Riggs, editor & publisher of Crochet Uncut, the Oficial Unofficial Magazine of the Crochet Liberation Front, has written a very complimentary
review of our 75% yak / 25% merino blend yarn that can be read here.
As part of her review, she created a mitten pattern specifically for the yak/merino yarn called the "Let it Snow Mittens". You can check out the pattern
here. Her Crochet Uncut magazine is full of great articles and
valuable information and is well written and produced as well, be sure to read more than just her review of our yarn!
Interweave Knits...
On page 20 of the Fall 2009 issue of Interweave Knits magazine is a very interesting editor's review on 'Spinning Local'. In the review Clara Parkes asks the readers
to "check the back of your yarn labels" and look specifically for locally spun yarn. Later in the review she discusses our Bijou Spun 50% yak/50% Cormo wool yarn
blend which is sourced and spun here in the US. The magazine hit the newsstands on August 11th.
Fons & Porter's Love of Knitting...
Fons & Porter's Love of Knitting magazine has decided to feature natural fibers in their Fall 2009 issue. We are thrilled that they decided to showcase our
75% yak / 25% Merino wool yarn blend, along with a gorgeous pattern by Marly Bird one of our favorite designers, as part of the feature. The issue should be hitting the stands as you read this and
the article can be found on page 16.
Sock Summit 2009 Reviews...
While we were at Sock Summit 2009 we saw that several online newspapers, both local to Oregon and not, reviewed the gathering
and mentioned Bijou Basin Ranch and our Bijou Spun Yarns. When you attend a show that is as big as Sock Summit, has over 150 vendors, and a list of distinguished
teachers and instructors it really makes you feel special to be singled out for a mention. Especially when they call your yarn 'glorious' in the process!

Clara Parkes and Knitters Review...
While we were at The TNNA Winter Show we were very fortunate to run into and spend some time with Clara Parkes author of
"Knitter's Book of Yarn", publisher
of "Knitters Review", and a contributing editor to Interweave Knits. Clara
had some very nice things to say about our Bijou Spun 50% Yak / 50% Cormo yarn. To read the review and get Clara's perspective
on the TNNA trade show and the state of knitting today follow this
link .
Amy O'Neill Houck and The Hook and I...
Another great friend we ran into at TNNA's Winter Trade Show was Amy O'Neill Houck. Amy is a well published designer who publishes her blog under
the name The Hook and I , her designs on the AOH Designs
web site and is a member of the Stitch Cooperative. At the show Amy
graciously agreed to create a new pattern using a single skein of our Bijou Spun 50% Yak / 50% Cormo yarn and we think she outdid herself! A beautiful
crocheted piece called the Cosmopolitan Cowl.
Marly Bird, The Yarn Thing...
We can't say enough nice things about Marlaina "Marly" Bird ! She is a knitter and a crocheter, and a wonderful
new designer, but most of all she is one of our newest best friends! For the Winter TNNA Trade Show, Marly designed and created an absolutely gorgeous piece that she
calls the Sweetheart Tunic that uses our Bijou Spun 75% Yak / 25% Bamboo yarn. We displayed the tunic in our booth at TNNA and received glowing comments from
everyone who saw it. Marly says the pattern should be available in February. Be sure to check back often as Marly has agreed to do more work with our yarns in the future.
Bijou Spun on Ravelry...
There are a number of milestones that we use to mark progress of our business and our yarns. Milestones such as the first sale, first retailer, first mention in
print and so on. Well we have hit another big milestone; we now have our own group on "Ravelry" ! If you are not familiar
with Ravelry it is a place for knitters, crocheters, designers, spinners, and dyers to keep track of their yarn, tools, and pattern information, and look to others for
ideas and inspiration. The content is all user-driven; we as a community make the site what it is. So head on over and join the
"Bijou Basin Ranch Fan Club"!
Yarn Market News...
The January 2009 issue of Yarn Market News has a wonderful article on luxury yarns by Leslie Petrovski entitled "Decadent Fibers".
We are thrilled to have been mentioned amidst some very well known and prestigious yarns! Leslie has some very nice things to say about
Bijou Basin Ranch and our Bijou Spun yarns, specifically our 100% yak fingering weight yarn. Be sure to check it out!
Knitty.Com Winter Issue...
We are very excited and happy to announce that our Bijou Spun 100% yak fiber clouds and rovings were selected
to be reviewed in the winter issue of Knitty.com! We received a 5+ (on a scale
of 1 to 5 where 5 is the softest) on their softness scale and were described in 1 word as "droolworthy". Can it get any better?
