Welcome...

Yogan

Hello and welcome to the Bijou Basin Ranch website. Established in 2005, Bijou Basin Ranch is a small family owned and run yak ranch located just outside the small town of Elbert on the open plains of the Colorado outback about 65 miles southeast of Denver, Colorado.

Our primary goal is to produce and sell premium yak fiber products such as rovings, yarn, and yarn blends. To do this we raise registered full blooded yaks that have superior glossy coats which are harvested annually. We also supplement the fiber we harvest from our yaks by buying quality yak fiber from other yak ranchers across the country and abroad. Our yak fiber is then processed into yarn at various mills across the country or abroad and sold under the Bijou Spun label.

Here are a couple of riddles for you…

          1. What weighs 1.75 ounces,
               is 435 yards long,
comes in 5 subtle, yet striking colors,
               and is 95% Angora?

          2. What weighs 1.75 ounces,
               is 175 yards long,
comes in 5 elegantly exciting colors,
and is made from goat fiber?

Hey, what's that funny bar code thingy?

It is called a Quick Response Code (or QR Code) and late in 2011 we started using them in a lot of our print advertising. When you spot one all you need to do is scan the QR Code on the ad with your smartphone and it will take you to a web page that is not otherwise available. Once you are there you will see additional information about the items in the ad that are not included in the print ad. Additional pictures, details about the yarn or pattern and sometimes significant discounts! Whenever you see us print a QR Code, you should scan it because you never know where it will take you!

This year we have started a QR Code Club as a way to say thanks to all of our loyal, repeat customers! At the various shows we attend and when fulfilling orders from our online store we occasionally hand out a special QR Code Club button (they look like a "Hello My Name Is… label with a QR Code in place of your name). If you get one of these buttons hang on to it! It is your gateway to big savings when purchasing from our online store.

2012 Events List is Up…

Even though 2012 just started, we are already looking ahead to the fiber shows and expos that we will be attending this year. We are confirmed in a number of them already and will be continuing to add a few more on as time goes by but if you visit our "Event Calendar" page you can see when we will be at a festival near you!

Thanks again to everyone who visited us in 2011 and we look forward to seeing you again in 2012!
